Benefits for people aged 16-21 years (Studying and Training) -  Level 2

This course covers the benefits that may be available to people in education or training between the ages of 16 and 20.  It will equip advisers with the knowledge and skills to advise young people and their families of the effect on benefit and tax credits entitlement of opting for particular forms of training or education.
This course will cover:

  • The effect of education and training on entitlement to Jobseekers Allowance, Income Support, Employment and Support Allowance, Carers Allowance and Housing Benefit where the young person has entitlement in his or her own right
  • Education Maintenance Allowances
  • The factors involved in decisions about whether a young person should claim in his or her own right or remain part of the ‘family’ for benefits and tax credits purposes.
