Employment and Support Allowance (income related)

This is a means-tested benefit (see Introduction) for people aged under pension age who are too ill to work. The claimants partner, if any, must be working less than 24 hours per week.

There are detailed rules allowing some claimants to keep their Employment and Support Allowance (income related) whilst doing a limited amount of work. This must usually be work of less than 16 hours per week. Unless these rules apply, the client will not be entitled to Employment and Support Allowance (income-related) if s/he starts work, so s/he will need to check this out first.
