Nora Corkery

Nora Corkery - Unit Manager

Nora graduated in Law and Politics in 1985. Specialising in Social Welfare Law, she spent two years working within the voluntary sector in Wales and a further five years in the statutory sector.

In 1992 Nora joined Devon Welfare Rights Unit as a specialist Welfare Rights Officer. She was appointed Manager of the Unit in 2005.

Vincent Wilson

Vincent Willson - Welfare Rights Officer

Vincent Willson has worked for Devon Welfare Rights Unit as a trainer and consultant for 19 years, having joined the Unit within its first year of operation in 1990. Prior to this he worked as a welfare rights officer for Citizens Advice Bureaux in Plymouth and Exeter.

Jude Giddings

Jude Giddings - Welfare Rights Officer

A varied working life, including teaching and training, led to the advice sector in 1991. Jude first worked with Devon Welfare Rights Unit in the mid 1990's and quickly developed an absorbing interest in welfare rights work - the huge interface between social policy, legislation and individuals.

Several more years of involvement with generalist advice work followed - back to DWRU in 2006 and now Jude has lead responsibility for the specialist benefits advice service available to families with a child with special needs.

Angela O'Brien

Angela O'Brien - Welfare Rights Officer

Since the 1980's Angela has worked for a number of campaigning and advice organisations mainly based in London on issues including homelessness, anti-racism, and prison reform. She joined Exmouth CAB as a Volunteer 1996 and was part time deputy manager from 1997 - 2005.

In January 2000 she joined Devon Welfare Rights Unit, as a part time Welfare Rights Officer. In 2002 DWRU was invited by Devon County Council to be involved in setting up the Joint Finance and Benefits team now a partnership including the County Council, DWRU, and Citizens Advice Bureaux.

DWRU undertook a process management review of the Joint Team commencing in November 2004 Angela undertook the post of Joint Team (process) Manager, a post she now holds within Devon Welfare Rights Unit.

Llinos Davies

Llinos Davies - Training Programme Administrator

Llinos Davies has worked as the training administrator for DWRU for three years. She works part time and through her job at DWRU has managed to secure funding to complete a social work degree through the Open University which she is working on at the moment.

Llinos will be the person you speak to if you have any training queries or requirements. She also helps out on our Fairer Charging project and Benefits Advice Service for Families of Children with Special Needs when necessary.

Judy Francis

Judy Francis - Unit Administrator

Judy has worked for Devon Welfare Rights Unit for 7 years. She trained as a medical secretary and has worked in the health sector as well as in finance and commerce. She also has experience of working with both autistic children and pre-school children with speech and language difficulties.

Judy oversees the administrative function of our office and will often be the first point of contact for families ringing in to our Benefits Advice Service for Families of Children with Special Needs
